The RNLI first established a lifeboat station at Poole in 1865 and the present station opened in 1988. RNLI Poole Lifeboat Station, The Quay, Poole, BH15 8HA, Dorset, England, is one of the busiest coastal lifeboat stations in the UK and since Nov-2016 has operated two inshore lifeboats, an Atlantic 85 and a D class. In 2018 a new 'floating boathouse' building was installed adjacent to the Lifting Bridge at Poole Quay. This is a covered building consisting of a steel framework and 'floats' housing both boats on a cradle held just out of the water, which is certainly an upgrade on the previous berthing situation of a 'floating pontoon' alongside the Quay. RNLI Poole host fairly regular visitor open days and occasional well-attended fundraising events at Poole Quay that are a delight and heartily recommended to all.

RNLI HQ corporate base, college, workshops and boatyards. Impressive modern architecture. The RNLI is a Great British institution we can all be proud of.
