I hadn't used Potato House before, having used another supplier previously. I contacted 3 separate suppliers in early December, including Potato House, asking some advice. All 3 responded but I was particularly impressed by the friendliness and response time from Amy at Potato House, especially as it was December and they would have been very busy with orders. Nothing seemed too much trouble. I was also impressed by the range of seed potatoes Potato House had on their easy to navigate website. I took advantage of Potato House's deal that allowed me to purchase 6 tubers of 5 different varieties for a discounted price. I liked this as it allows me to try out several varieties but small amounts of each. Several other suppliers only sold in 1 or 2 kg bags which limits choice of variety. One other factor for choosing Potato House was the fact I could delay delivery and select the week I wanted them to be sent. I liked this as I could box off the order early and get full choice of variety but with the knowledge that Potato House could store the seed potatoes and then delivery them around the time when they needed chitting. My seed potatoes arrived from Potato House this last week and the quality is fantastic. It is worth remembering that around the time my order was due for processing and dispatch, eastern Scotland was experiencing temperatures as low as -23C in some parts and copious amounts of snow (all that in a global pandemic with its necessary restrictions!). Despite this, my order still arrived and it speaks volumes for all the staff at Potato House that they continued to fulfill orders so efficiently in such challenging circumstances. I even ended up getting a few more of one variety than I expected! I will definitely use Potato House again for my seed potatoes and I cannot recommend them highly enough.

Just to say how happy I am with the seed potatoes that arrived today, order no. 21385. I was very pleased to be able to delay the delivery (as I do not like to 'chit' or plant too early) and very impressed that the tubers were still cool to the touch even after travelling to the south of England. I ordered 1kg of Charlotte potatoes and was very disappointed that this contained only 9 large tubers as they had stated in their info that the 1kg nets contain between 12-14 tubers. I queried this with the company and they acknowledged the mistake on their website and sent me a further net of 6 tubers. I’m very pleased with their service and will use again.

The Sarpo new potatoes grew perfectly in 20kg plastic bags, ordinary compost with some blood fish and bone worked into it before planting. The skins were perfect (no scraping it peeling needed), the plants were blight free, did not get leggy, and most important the potatoes were typical size and tasted really, really good. Like potatoes used to. Potato House is a great service.

We used some of their seed potatoes for a family tattie growing competition. 3 generations took part and it was a great way to get youngsters interested in growing their own as they are very easy to grow. Potato House give excellent customer service and are on hand to answer any questions about varieties to use/growing conditions/harvesting however silly you may feel the question is. And at the end of the competition, we all had some deliciously tasty tatties to eat as a reward.
