The most amazing place and the BEST airfield in the UK for aviation photography

Lovely to see the new submarine hunter the Poseidon arriving. Several viewing places along the verges and if you're lucky you could see this one or a tornado. No access that we know of for the public but park at the castle if no space at side of road. Another great place to view is under the landing strip lights on west beach. Wow!

Mind blowing experience on the base, especially when the place was the control centre of the country wide search and rescue centre. The staff were very excellent and helpful and polite when I was on site. A totally enjoyable experience for a person like me.

Just spent a week on base with the RAF Air Cadets and what a experience. The accommodation at the S & NI Regional Activity Centre was one of the best I have ever seen. The catering at the junior ranks mess was excellent and all staff were helpful and friendly. Visiting many of the sections and squadrons was very interesting and you really can’t get over watching multiple Typhoon aircraft in the air. However due to the security level of this base we weren’t allowed to take our phones on base which was a downside but considering it’s for preventing weapons types and all that being posted on social media due to someone being ignorant I can understand the reason for this being enforced. But despite that, it’s definitely a base you have to spend some time at whether your a regular in the RAF, a civilian worker or like me, via the RAFAC.
