My husband and I just got asked (05 August 2020, 15.30 pm)to leave for having shoplifting yesterday (04 August 2020). The staff lady said they saw us on CCTV. I shopped there with my husband yesterday for 5.55 (19.09 pm). We did self check out as the self checkout till was free. I think the system did not print a receipt. (It said your receipt will be printed in 5 seconds, then a red bar showed, perhaps because the roll wasn't loaded. We are not too hung up on receipts so we left - but we sure will be careful in future now onwards!) I request the store staff to verify the items in our basket against the amount I have paid. I suspect it is one of the items that the machine asked me to take off ( a milky way bar) but we saw it on the item list and we have paid for it. I tried to explain this but they just asked us to leave. Why would we return to the same store, in the same clothes the very next day if we did such a thing? And we live on the next street! Please clarify this and clear our names, as this has been a highly embarrassing (and insulting) experience. I am a digital professional, my husband has lived in England since 1996. We shop everywhere - Lidl, Poundland - at self checkout and have never faced an issue like this. Also, in all other stores, there is at least one staff looking out for self- checkouters. Can you verify if there was any store staff of Coop Ramsgate around us to help at that point? I don't think so, else they would have heard the machine beeping to take the milky way off. In any case, you have lost my clientele. Thank you for reading.
