I had an appointment to buy my first pair of fitted ski boots ready for my upcoming season. I booked the appointment about a week before on the phone. The fitting was very thorough (took at least 2 hours) and I decided to go for the moulded soles as well for extra comfort. Rod (?) was very thorough and stressed the importance on focusing on comfort and feel of the boot rather than the colour etc. (which I found difficult). 4 months into my ski season and I havent had any issues at all with the boots.. Not even in the first week. I have worn them at least 5 x week and they have been so comfortable. Thanks Carter's for great service and very comfortable boots.

Took my brand new faction skis to have some bindings fitted. Fitted them ok and fairly promptly. However when I collected them I found that someone marked my fresh out the factory skis with permanent pen to mark the binding mid point, I asked if they could try and get it off but only managed to rub more of the ski graphic off. There's no need to use permanent pen when you can use tape or a dry wipe pen. It's a pretty small thing but I did want to speak to the manager to ask why he used permanent pen to mark the skis. An incredibly arrogant and rude man bowled down the stairs and bluntly told me "it is what it is". I said the point above to which he aggressively replied that he had to use permanent (when he didn't), then proceeded to lie and say that he told me to mark them myself on the phone when he absolutely didn't do. He also said that I was going to "trash them in 5 minutes anyway so it doesn't matter", and called me "pathetic". If I went around his shop and started marking all his brand new skis then im sure he would have something to say about it, however it got way past the marks when he told me to "never come in his shop again". I was astonished how a manager (possibly owner) could get so irate about a small mistake he made, as feel I stayed calm and fair throughout not being a confrontational person. I managed to get 10 off the fitting but I would never give this silly man my business again. I advise you don't either unless you want damaged equipment with no apology.

I went in with the aim of spending potentially over 400 on a pair of fitted ski racing boots. I had looked on the website where there was no obvious mention of having fitting appointments, and made the hour journey to reading. We went in the shop and were left standing around for quite a while until a man came over and asked what we wanted, on saying I was looking for a pair of boots, we were promptly told to read the sign explaining the system (not where or how we could make one) and the man then disappeared without so much as a backwards glance, let alone to ask if we wanted to book in. Very rude and unhelpful, I will be taking my custom elsewhere. They obviously don’t need the business as myself and my father were also looking for new jackets and helmets. Very disappointed.

30 to try on a pair of ski boots?!? As any savvy buyer we strive for the best price in any goods. Upon going to a large winter sports shop we wanted to visit a local independent shop. The outside states it's been 'Busy since 1830'. Very unbelievable as the quality of service was abysmal. We initially went in for advice on ski boots as an alternative from another shop. When the shop assistant realised this his tone changed very negatively throwing multiple prices for their services. We disappointingly left with no advice, no recommendations and to be going back to Snow & Rock where we were offered expert guidance and were never once forced to purchase a 'boot fitting' whether or not we were going to buy the ski boots.

Great place, I was shopping for ski boots, they do charge for the fitting service but it's worth it! You get about 3 hours of their time with an experienced fitter, who gives you undivided attention. They also offer a fitting gaurentee for the season in case you find you have problems oh the slopes, I've not had a chance to ski with them yet but have every confidence they will be good!

Good mix of brands and gear. Prices comparable to other high street retailers. Ski Boot fitting service is excellent. Booked an appointment and was give over 2 hours one to one assistance. Rod is very knowledgable and relentless in his enthusiasm to get perfect fitting boots with the correct attributes for your abilities. (I have had ski boots fitted before by another major retailer. I was very pleased with those also but the experience was very much a case of turn up and join the conveyer belt..... with each assistance working with multiple punters at once.) I have many years ski experience and did a lot or research on the changes in new boot technology before buying. There was no attempt by Carters staff to upsell to more expensive boots or push additional unnecessary services.
