A large weir almost in the middle of Reading operated by the Environment Agency next door to Caversham Lock. Pedestrians can walk across the River Thames here. It incorporates a salmon ladder to allow salmon to return to their spawning grounds further upstream. During high flows and in the winter when a lot of water is passing through the gates it makes a wonderful thunderous sound.
