A hidden gem in the heart of Rotherham. Lovely for a picnic on a sunny day or a walk round the water ways. Just a lovely place to be....

Brilliantly preserved monastery ruins with an English Heritage Centre providing information boards. Plenty of open green space and a picturesque forest surrounding the river and monastery.

I have been coming to Roche Abbey for as long as I can remember, which is nearly 70 years!! It is worth while reading up on the history as it always seems to have a certain air of mystique. For the walkers, it presents a great stopping off point for a sandwich break

Free trail around the ruins of the Abbey. Such a lovely and serene place.

It was our first time visiting this abbey. In fact if I'm honest both me or my husband had never heard of this place, it was only by chance that my husband was asking Google of places to visit within an hour's drive that we knew of its existence. It was so quiet and serene it was so atmospheric. There is a gift shop and toilet facilities but no cafe so you will need to take a picnic if that's your thing. We had read previous reviews which said it's easy to miss the lane down to the abbey it's not it is well signposted just look for the brown signs. The reviews also mentioned the cobbled lane and it is also a car width all the way but there are a few places to pull to one side if a car is coming in the opposite direction. Give this abbey a visit if they are your thing Whitby it is not lol but still as impressive. We will definitely go again

It's a very nice quiet place to look around with some great countryside walks too , a guide book is a good idea and it gives great historical insight into the abbey and the local area, not an overly expensive place but if you are interested in local history it's well worth a visit , the access road is a little bumpy but don't be put off by this
