Lovely French bistro in Taunton. Fantastic food and very attentive staff and good Covid practice

I've been lucky enough to go to Augustus a couple of times in 2020. The welcome, service and atmosphere is still lovely, despite the covid-measures. Actually, their glass screens around the tables can make it feel even more intimate and special, so they've thought things through well. The menu is short enough to be comprehensible, and full of tempting French and European dishes. They have a very reasonable set menu too, which I think they even offer on Saturdays. They know a lot about their wine list, and are very honest - so do ask. Every wine I've chosen there has been exceptional. At my most recent meal my fish starter was delicate and delicious, and my veggie main of beetroot and feta tart good, but rather cumbersome, and not knock-out, which is what I'd expect from them based on previous form. A lot of the items on the menu were the same as many months ago... The puddings were great, completely more-ish. Overall you come away feeling full, but not feeling like you've hideously over-indulged, and feeling like you've enjoyed really good, perfectly seasoned food. I gave just 4 stars as my expectation of Augustus was that every single mouthful would be beautiful; a perfect example of the love of food, shared. It wasn't quite giving out the love-bug the last time I went, but I hope it catches it again soon.

This restaurant is not only a beautiful quaint building. It is extremely well decorated. The food is outstanding !!! It is up there with some of the best food I've tasted. The service is second to none. I would highly recommend to anyone who wants a classy, high standard meal who appreciates the work and effort that gorgeous food takes to deliver. My visit to Taunton has definitely been amazing but with this gorgeous restaurant visit it leaves me wanting more . Thank you so much Richard Guest plus your amazing team for your superb service and outstanding food x

Very good food and service and ambience. They don't do cocktails but they rustled up a White Russian and a Mojito for us! Both delicious. The only minus point is that they don't offer a vegetarian option. However, on the day we visited there was a vegetarian daily special.

Wow. The food here is fantastic. We had starters mains desert and cheese and all were so good I really couldn't fault it. The ribeye steak was right up there with the best I've ever had. The wine list had a good range. The staff were efficient and helpful. All tucked away in a little courtyard in Taunton. Highly recommended.
