The Ship Inn is a Grade II Listed Building and the oldest pub in Herne Bay. The current pub was probably built in the mid-1600s, although it’s history dates back to 1385. Approaching the coastline via East Street, the pub’s exterior looks like it needs a little loving care. In fact, when I tried to find the front entrance it wasn’t obviously open. When I went inside, however, it exceeded my expectations! The interior is large, clean and spacious - wooden floors, wooden beams - all well maintained. The staff were very friendly and there was a lovely raised outdoor space to enjoy the sunshine and beautiful coastal views.

had a long 4 mile walk from Tankerton to get to the pub and it looked quite grotty from the outside. However, still went in and it was a lovely old pub inside. The bar chap was very friendly and welcoming. We sat outside on a raised terrace overlooking the sea and he popped out a couple of times to see if we needed topping up. Took name and number for Covid tracing.

Lovely comfortable pub with friendly staff. It's a great place to grab food and drink after a walk on the seafront with a good selection of ales and wines plus a great choice of food. Dog friendly and accepts Apple Pay / contactless.
