The Newark Tourist Information Centre is housed in this beautiful late Victorian building and more helpful staff you won't find especially Ros who helped me beyond the call of duty on my recent visit to Newark. The building was given to the town in 1883 for use as a library by Sir William Gilstrap, a highly reputable maltster in the town during the nineteenth century. It stayed open as a library for nearly a century when it became too small so its usage was changed to a Tourist Information and Exhibition Centre with permission from the charities commission. Unfortunately it is under treat of change of usage again but as registry office which would not benefit all the residents of Newark as was originally intended so on my visit I was happy to sign a petition to keep it as it is. Its location as a tourist Information could not be better as it is situated on the same site as the castle, also worth a visit. To the rear of the building is a lovely grassed area which is perfect for a picnic, watching performers in the band stand or just relaxing and enjoying the historical views. Visited May 2012
