Really beautiful walk on a nice day. Short walk around 15mins from Osmaston park entrance. Instead of going into Osmaston park take the left gate. Very tranquil with some lovely views. There is a hill, so bit of a climb on way back up. There are some private roads, which lead to private properties. You can however walk from the mill to Shirley. Which we plan to do next time.

Beautiful, but private property.
A lovely and peaceful place! ️ The nearby information board explains that the sawmill "was built around the 1850s in order to meet timber demands on the Estate. At its peak the sawmill employed 20 people and all timber was sourced locally". It was closed in the 1980s in the face of cheap imported timber and competition from larger mechanised sawmills. It was re-roofed in 2011 and "it is hoped it will be converted to cater for events and functions, or possibly as a holiday house ... run in conjunction with the wedding and event business already running on the Estate". Built in a kind of picturesque alpine style, the mill was powered by Shirley Brook, which was dammed to provide a head of water. The views of both the mill and the woodland around, well worth a walk until this place. ️
Nice place with the huge waterfall but there are some private road so be careful
