Chester Farm, rebranded as Chester House Estate, as well as being the site of a Roman walled town, evidence has been discovered from the Mesolithic, Iron Age & Medieval periods. The Chester House Estate is a nationally significant heritage site, being one of the few places in the country that can demonstrate over 10,000 years of human activity. A disastrous fire occurred in 2010 but the house, with 84 acres of land, is currently undergoing restoration by the county council with help from a Heritage Lottery grant. It will become an educational centre, with walks around the area & along the river-side. Exhibitions of archaeological finds will eventually be located there. The 17th Century Grade II* listed stone farmhouse, spacious stable yard & threshing barn will be transformed into a county visitor attraction for both locals & for folks from further afield. STOP PRESS 04-Feb-2021: optimistic 'launch' announcements from the Chester House Estate project team of some services likely being open to visitors, Covid-19 restrictions allowing, in spring with a full opening later in the year (circa Oct-21).

Interesting to see the project developing, look forward to the wild flower meadow being restored & looking around the building when open. Nice walk.

This is a beautiful place to walk the dogs. It's also a site that the archaeologists are enabling the community to enjoy in lots of ways relating to its heritage as they progress the work to develop a new visitor offer with revamped buildings etc. I've enjoyed walking the site with the experts to understand the significance of the valley, the line of the trains, the things still showing above ground that indicate the line of the Roman wall and so on. I also love following the progress on Twitter with the digs volunteers can do at the site.

Beautiful views, a real touch of Northampton countryside with some real history. Currently under rejuvenation, thanks to council compassion and lottery funding. Archeological finds showing evidence of Roman settlement. Awesome!
