Bed was very comfortable. However, for two people we found the room had too much furniture and we were tripping over each other. Bathroom was chilly with a cold tile floor. Breakfast was enjoyable. Ideal location for a short walk to city centre.

Such a nice hostel! Clean, old stylish house but renovated. Beautiful area, still walking distance to city walls. Amazing staff.

Good location, about 15 minute walk from the heart of the city centre. Has a bus stop directly outside. Included breakfast is excellent, order great hot stuff at the table. Room was very small, but cozy and definitely did its job, even though it showed some wear and tear. Overall good value for money.

Lovely old building, 15 minute walk from the centre of town. The beds are comfortable with en-suite bathrooms. Good breakfast and friendly staff. Can't fault the place and so will stay again next time I come to York.

Amazing staff, really friendly and helpful; clean and spacious rooms, both dorm and public rooms; great atmosphere and facilities, free WiFi, 1 breakfast with money going to charity, good kitchen facilities, and a laundry, dorms have a nice ensuite, bar with good prices and a great bar tender, a nice quite court yard. The hostel is only about a ten minutes walk from the train station and about 20 minutes or so from the town centre. So you are still close to everything but don't have all the noise of being in town. I would highly recommend staying here. Great price for what it offers! I believe private rooms (opposed to dorms) and free parking are also available.

Lovely staff members and breakfast. But rooms dirty and no tea facilities in room and TV impossible to see from beds. Family too. With only one chair to sit on. No wifi, which isn't good, the reason I booked at holgate was because WiFi available. Would stay again.
