Fantastic cycle and pathway from Riccall to York - should be 5 stars but needs lots of TLC as the path is breaking up due to tree roots. This makes cycling very bumpy and not a joy as it should be .

It was a great experience, we did it by foot, can be done on pushbikes. Some planets are mising the codes, should be kept more clean

The path is bumpy an there is a muddy bumpy path to Pluto.

Cycled from York to here. The current state of the cycle path is a bit bumpy for road bikes where roots have lifted the tarmac. There is resurfacing going on at the moment.

Great way of getting the scale of our solar system with the sun and planets to scale inc distance between them. Long way to walk (8 miles). Easy on a bike.

This is part of the Cycle the Solar System Cycle Route, the first Cycle Route by Sustrans (who have gone on to build many major routes across the UK). The models are a little tired and grubby but its a great way to get out and active for the day!! The Pluto and Charon Models are a bit hard to find; they aren't on the main cycle route but off of a short diversion from the cycle path. After you pass the last signpost for Neptune/ Pluto the path will take a slight turn to the right, and there will be to the left a narrow footpath heading up a short slope, with hedges either side. At the end of this short path will be the Pluto model. If you have reached the Voyager Model (travelling away from York) then you have missed Pluto and need to turn back.

A lovely (& gentle) cycle journey, just over 6miles taking you off the road (so safe for the little kiddies) . As you see scale models of our planets along the way, and the vast distance they are from the sun, you look in wonder how insignificant we are in the wider world. Cycling along the olde railway cutting is a joy and great for exercise as well as a pleasant day out. Time it right and you can find a carvery for Sunday lunch in one of the pubs in Riccall.
