We moved recently to Cambridgeshire from London. After having the best restaurants on our doorstep it was very difficult finding great food, service and an atmosphere around here. Then we found The Plough! Can not fault it. The food is up there with some of the best places in London. The service is fantastic, so friendly but professional! The food prices are almost too cheap. They are doing takeout now and it’s cheaper than going to the local pizza shop yet you get quality great tasting food. Anyone would think I was paid to post this lol.. honestly it’s that good and you will not be disappointed.

It was acceptable, the service was good, they're all make good efforts to ensure all guests are well looked after. The food was ok, the starter was poor as it was not done as it said on the menu, the main course was very good.

All staff had masks on which made me feel extremely comfortable due to the pandemic. We were warned in advance that the place was very busy so food might be a while. There were lots of people on the grass drinking and eating but that was expected since it was ‘eat out to help out’. The starters took a little bit to arrive but they were mostly enjoyed. As we were waiting for our mains however, we saw others groups being served their mains despite them arriving after us. We watched many people who arrived after us finish their three courses whilst we were still waiting for our mains. We knew service would be delayed but by now it was two hours since we arrived and food still hadn’t arrived. By now it was much less busy as most people had been served their food and left. When our food eventually arrived it was lacklustre. The fish looked gorgeous however it didn’t taste that fresh. We ordered two pizzas too; one was delicious and cooked throughly but the other one was slightly undercooked. Our waiter was absolutely amazing and definitely kept the morale up whilst waiting for our food. They were making conversation with the customers; making people laugh and was always stress free despite the amount of people waiting for their food.

Very good food. Sat outside due to restrictions but it was very pleasant. The staff were excellent.

Service good, food decidedly average. Upon arriving (at 8pm) we were quite taken aback by the noise being produced by the inebriated people outside. I realise that everywhere is likely to be busy on a Friday night, but the atmosphere made us feel like we were in an All Bar One. For the starter I ordered mackerel with a 'tomato and red onion ceviche'. The mackerel itself was overcooked, not fresh and under-seasoned, while the 'ceviche' consisted of roughly chopped tomatoes and some slices of very harsh red onion. My friend had the scampi – I tried one, and it tasted very much like it had come out of a freezer. There's nothing wrong with that, but don't charge 8.50 for a starter of it. For the main, I ordered the stone bass with (seriously?) and mashed potato (17.50). I was very disappointed to receive a truly minute piece of – once again – overcooked and under-seasoned fish, its miniature size only thrown into relief by the three enormous pats of potato on which it sat. I also had a side dish of garlicky French beans that were virtually raw. For dessert was the cheesecake, which was fine. The service was good, however: attentive and polite. This is a place whose identity is torn between being a 'classy' pub on one hand and, as their website has it, a 'gastropub' on the other. It is difficult to see what exactly justifies the latter term, beyond the emptily pretentious ways in which it names its dishes. It is even more difficult to see what justifies the prices they charge, because the food is just not very good. The pizzas and burgers that the people next to us had looked OK – perhaps they should stick to that kind of thing.
