Opposite the Westminster Abbey is this tall marble and stone column, which stands in tribute to former pupils of Westminster School who died in the Crimean War 1854-1856 and the Indian Mutiny 1857-1858. At the base of the column are inscribed the names of the former pupils, flanked by four lions, followed by a marble column topped with a figure of St George slaying the dragon. Just below St. George are four statues of St Edward the Confessor, Henry III, Elizabeth I and Queen Victoria. Sadly some of the lions are badly damaged and in need of repair.
