I had one of my best experiences at any European consulate at the Swedish Consulate in Edinburgh. The person taking my Schengen visa application was extremely nice and understanding. He was willing to do everything he could to facilitate visa applicants. He even had spare blank self-addressed and postage-paid envelopes in case some applicant forgot to bring their own. The application process went most smoothly. After having a nightmarish experience with the extremely rude staff at the French Consulate in Edinburgh, the conduct of Swedish Consulate's staff was a breath of fresh air.
