Unfortunately the museum is closed until 1st September 2020, however even just going to see the outside was great. The Big Pit is set high up in the hills and the site still has stuff to look at outside and it offers some fantastic views across the valley. There is a large car park which is Pay and Display at 3 a day, but the museum is free although donations are welcome. There are also sheep wandering the fields around it which just makes the whole place really special.

Still can't believe this is free to get in! Going down the pit was amazing, wrap up warm as it's cold down there and make sure you have suitable footwear. Mark the guide was very informative and gave a real insight to how it must have been so many years ago. You'll even find stables down there! The museum at the top of the hill has loads to see. I love the collection of miners lamps. This is a lovely place for hound and old. I didn't visit the cafe but I seemed nice. Make sure you have 3 for the car park. PLEASE NOTE, you cannot take cameras or mobile phones down into the mine. They will look after them for you.

This was a great afternoon out. I just couldn't believe it was free! A great guide showed us around the mine and kept us safe, whilst telling us all about the mines history. Definitely worth visiting
