Great place for a walk, the kids playground was a big win and the kids enjoyed seeing the sheep, cows and chickens. We had snow and unfortunately most of the grounds behind the house were flooded, house was closed (hence the 4 stars) due to COVID and a lot of the gardens were covered for the winter. No complaints from us though. Site was clean, adhered to all the COVID measure, cafes were open at the windows so we were able to get hot chocolates all round. We enjoyed a sausage roll and cheese & onion pasty both delicious and piping hot. Food was a little over priced in my opinion but that's typical of National Trust places. Not many staff around but those we met were friendly and helpful. Pathways suitable for all mobilities, toilet facilities open and clean (always helpful with two young children). Great car park and not just a muddy field. All in all a great couple of hours.

Visited during Covid. Been many times as its right on our doorstep and its always a pleasure. Beautiful grounds to spend hours exploring, really nice play area for the kids as well. Cafés on site as well. Recommend to anyone.
You have to book 24 hours in advance of your visit which is annoying as I dont like to itinerise my holiday..and..the access points to the public footpaths (Essex bridge) have been locked. I understand the need for this however the public right of way does go past the NT carpark near the railway which is after the covid checkpoint therefore making the restrictions irrelevant! Apart from the planned walk moan, it's a nice well presented park with waymarked trails accessible by wheelchair and the cafe had a short waiting time but the food was lovely (goats cheese& red onion quiche with potato wedges and coleslaw).
Great for a winter walk. Some catering available. The views are stunning. Need to book entrance in advance.
Beautiful and serene place even in the rain. The staff on duty were very welcoming, friendly and helpful. Signs and hygiene facilities good. Toilets were clean with cleaning taking place frequently. Hand washing facilities good with strategically placed hand gel though not outside toilets. Social distancing measures clear. Shop, as well as the cafe, was open. The grounds are extensive and the paths and walkways well maintained and wide. Felt totally safe from Covid 19. The scenery was beautiful and we had an excellent walk.
