Quaint transport across river with chain powered boat. Recommended circular walk along both sides of river and using bridge. May see local cricket match in summer.

There's a bridge just a short walk farther down the river, but that would be so boring. The kids will prefer the ferry. The ferry also pops you out right next to one of the better pubs in Stratford.

An ancient crossing point and right of way across the River Avon just below the famous Parish Church wherein lie undisturbed the ancient, curse protected bones of William Shakespeare. It is opposite the popular Dirty Duck pub, from where it starts its regular crossings to the opposite bank. The ferry is chain operated by a ferryman. He politely and efficiently plies his trade for a small consideration in coin of the realm. I like to think Shakespeare crossed the River at that point in those days before the bridge was built.

Convenient and iconic! Enjoyed the 2-3 minute crossing and took some nice photos of the river too.

Interesting experience. Ferry man winds a handle and the chain moves the ferry across. Only 50p. It's shorter by water.

Brilliant only a short ride but better than swimming across

Quite a cool little gimmick. We sat here and watched people getting on this as we had our ice cream and it's pretty good. The oldest working chain link ferry I believe and it's a hard working person pulling the chain to move the ferry across and to be fair I say it's a gimmick but for 50p it's a fun way to get across the river as well!
