Very unusual and worth a visit
The tunnel is probably missed by so many people who pass over it as they travel along the canal. It's not clear that there's anything here, as from the path above, it just looks like a ditch. The tunnel itself is pretty short, stretching only from one side of the canal to the other. At the moment, it is partially flooded and will most likely stay that way until the better weather comes around. Like most things, it has been vandalised.
Discovered by accident, neglected but interesting.
Lovely landmarks..
Found this tunnel when out walking sometime last year (2016). Was a lot of water and rubbish in and around, but I started clearing it and found the sign. This used to be at Lanark Road end. After a bit of research, I found it is still listed as a public road.
When does an arch become a tunnel...
In all respects a sub-standard underpass leading from flora to more civilized flora (in the form of a park with children toys to be used by children). Very short, for a tunnel. Nonetheless bathed in darkness, possibly reflecting a deep-seated upheaval in the architect's innards. An unfortunate piece of landscaping, profoundly so.
